The infamous “Deflategate” has swarmed Tom Brady and the reigning Super Bowl champion New England Patriots all off-season long, and the saga will continue as Brady gets set to appeal his four-game suspension handed down by the NFL in May.

The suspension has been a controversial topic since it was first announced, as some believe it to be unfair. Among those critics is former NFL player Matt Bowen, who spoke out against the suspension on Bleacher Report Radio.

“I still can’t believe this is happening, to be honest,” Bowen said. “Why are you trying to bring the face of the NFL down? I know, I understand we’re talking about quote-unquote ‘integrity of the game,’ but there’s quarterbacks who put footballs in dryers. There’s quarterbacks who take a steel brush and scuff those things down. That stuff happens all over the NFL. It happens in college football too.”

Bowen gave his on opinion on whether Brady’s suspensions will harm the Patriots’ season.

“I think they get through it,” said Bowen. “I don’t think this is a big issue for New England.”
