While you were sleeping: The NBA returns, Monty Williams’ emotional eulogy for wife Ingrid

Good morning! A lot happens in sports, even when you’re busy doing other non-sports-y stuff. So here are the top headlines and moments from yesterday, in case you missed anything while you were watching #TGIT on ABC.

Reasons why we missed the NBA so much

It felt like forever since we’ve last seen professional basketball. Wait, it’s only been four days since the All-Star game? Well, it sure felt like forever. The NBA returned (finally!) and gave us a night chock-full of highlights. We’ll keep the descriptions to a minimum so you can enjoy this awesomeness.

John Wall with the filthy “Now you see me, now you don’t” move in the Wizards’ 103-89 win over the Jazz:

Kyrie Irving channeled “Uncle Drew” with this playground-style crossover:

LeBron James did “LeBron James” things to lead the Cavs past the Bulls, 106-95:

Finally, DeAndre Jordan had himself a dunk party in the Clippers’ 105-86 win over the Spurs, including this nasty slam over Danny Green. Props to Green for the hustle, but while he’s in the air you could see in his eyes he’s thinking, “Aww man, I’m gonna be on a poster.”

Monty Williams gives emotional, graceful eulogy for his wife, Ingrid

Our must-see moment is a melancholy one. Oklahoma City Thunder assistant coach Monty Williams gave an emotional and powerful eulogy for his wife, Ingrid, who died on Feb. 10 after being involved in a car accident. With a contingent of NBA coaches, players and supporters in attendance, Williams gave an incredibly graceful speech with a message focused on love and celebration of Ingrid’s life, and forgiveness for the other driver, Susannah Donaldson, who also died in the accident.

NBA trade deadline aftermath

The trade deadline came and went without any big names moving, but some teams made key moves to strengthen their rosters for a playoff push.

Here’s SiriusXM’s analysis of the deals that went down on Thursday and which teams came out on top.

Look cool every morning. Find out what you missed in the sports world while you were sleeping, and impress your friends and co-workers. We won’t tell them you were actually watching Shades of Blue on NBC.
