Good morning! A lot happens in sports, even when you’re busy doing other non-sports-y stuff. So here are the top headlines and moments from yesterday, in case you missed anything while you were watching Better Call Saul.

Villanova claims national title in a thriller

If you missed last night’s National Championship, you missed an instant classic. Villanova downed North Carolina 77-74 on a last-second buzzer-beater to win it’s second national title in program history after winning in 1985. The Wildcats controlled most of the second half before the Tar Heels stormed back and tied the game on this ridiculous double-clutch three-pointer by Marcus Paige with 4.7 seconds left:

It’s unfortunate that his incredible shot will go down as the second-most remembered shot of this game, but it will no-doubt live on forever:

Everyone assumed the game was headed for overtime, but ‘Nova drew up a beautiful play that had Ryan Arcidiacono, who was named Final Four Most Outstanding Player, drive the ball up the floor and hand off to a trailing Kris Jenkins for a deep three:

That will go down as the best ending to a national championship game ever. It was the first buzzer-beater in a title game since Lorenzo Charles tipped in an air ball to give N.C. State the win in 1983. The reaction of Villanova head coach Jay Wright was priceless, as it didn’t really hit him that the game was over and he had just won his first National Championship:

Villanova’s Josh Hart spoke with SiriusXM’s College Sports Nation after the final buzzer sounded and he captured what all of ‘Nova’s campus was thinking:

‘Nova’s campus, on the other hand, was absolutely LIT:

On the other side, unfortunately, is the heartbreaking agony of defeat known as March Sadness:

But of course, the internet is a cold and ruthless place so you know the “Crying Jordan” memes were ready to go. We even got the rare “Crying Jordan” on Michael Jordan himself:

This was a perfect end to an incredibly wild NCAA Tournament. Until next time, March Madness, you will be missed.

#RawAfterMania

The Monday Night Raw after WrestleMania is usually guaranteed to have some craziness ensue, and last night’s show absolutely delivered. The show started with Vince McMahon relinquishing control of Raw to Shane McMahon for the night. The highlight was a fatal-four-way main event to determine a number-one contender for Roman Reigns’ world heavyweight championship. Kevin Owens, Chris Jericho, A.J. Styles and the returning Cesaro put on an outstanding performance with incredible storytelling that had me yell, “Please God, no!” when I thought Jericho would win. It didn’t happen, and A.J. Styles used his patented Styles Clash finisher to get the win:

This win is huge for a number of reasons. Roman Reigns cut a promo that didn’t turn him heel, but indicated that he might be playing a character in a “gray”-area that might toe the line between heel and babyface. Pitting him against a bonafide babyface in Styles gives Reigns room to actually grow into a heel over time. Also, there’s no doubt that Styles will bring the best out of Reigns in the ring.

Not to be forgotten is the return of Cesaro, who is one of the best in-ring performers on the roster and should be thrust into any title picture immediately. The WWE has been riddled with injuries for almost a year and the company has been limping along without some of its top talent. With more returns on the horizon, we should be in for great improvements.

Last night was also highlighted by the debut of NXT stars. Baron Corbin, who won the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 32, fought Dolph Ziggler to a double count-out. Apollo Crews debuted and showcased his incredible in-ring ability in a win over Tyler Breeze. But the show was stolen by the team known as Enzo & Cass. Enzo Amore and Colin Cassady didn’t wrestle, but got on the mic and ignited the crowd by confronting the Dudley Boyz. The way the entire crowd recited their “Can’t beat that/How you doin'” was wildly entertaining, and these two will undoubtedly inject some life into the fluttering tag team division.
