Lifelong friends who met at secondary school in the small town of Bushey, George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley formed WHAM! in 1981, becoming one of the most globally successful pop acts of the 1980s. WHAM! sold more than 30 million records worldwide, with five of their 11 singles becoming British No. 1s.
In the United States, “Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go,” “Careless Whisper,” and “Everything She Wants” — all from the same album, Make It Big — topped the charts. In the summer of 1985, their WHAMAMERICA! stadium tour played to hundreds of thousands of WHAM! fans across the States.
Although WHAM! disbanded in 1986, George and Andrew’s friendship was as strong at the end as it was in the beginning.

On July 5, 2023, Netflix released WHAM!, a feature-length documentary that captures WHAM!’s incredible four-year run from 1982-1986, from director Chris Smith and producers John Battsek and Simon Halfon. The documentary includes unprecedented access to both George and Andrew’s personal archives, including remarkable and never-before-seen footage, alongside rare, candid, and previously unheard interviews. WHAM! follows their incredible journey from school friends to superstars.
