Thomas Rhett finally released his third album, Life Changes, this month. To celebrate, Today Show host Hoda Kotb — one of his biggest fans — sat down with the rising country star to talk about his new music, marriage, children, childhood and much more during a Town Hall on The Highway (Ch. 56).

Speaking of his high school years, Rhett explained to Hoda that he was quite rebellious and went through a lot of “phases.” During one of those phases, he started his first band, The High Heeled Flip Flops, whose members all dyed their hair black like the Ramones and sang in British accents.

He also talked about what it felt like to hear Jason Aldean’s recording of a song he wrote.
