Fifteen years ago, the world lost the legendary princess of R&B, Aaliyah, in a tragic accident that took her promising young life.

She would’ve been 37 years old by now, had her plane not crashed on Aug. 25, 2001 after she filmed the video for her single Rock the Boat.

Lauded for her short but impactful career, she was truly beloved by her fans and collaborators. Usher, her friend and R&B contemporary, has paid tribute to the late singer over the years and recently reminisced about her legacy and their friendship during his recent visit to the SiriusXM studio.

You can hear Aaliyah’s music on SiriusXM FLY (Ch. 47), The Heat (Ch. 46), Heart & Soul (Ch. 48) and 90s on 9 (Ch. 9).
