Tyler Lockett: ‘Perfect play in a perfect coverage’ led to big TD to help Seahawks beat Cowboys

Tyler Lockette had to run the route properly and make the catch and run to the end zone. And Russell Wilson had to do his part in delivering the throw on time and on target. But it also was the decision to dial up the pass that resulted in Lockette’s 52-yard touchdown to help the Seattle Seahawks beat the Dallas Cowboys, 24-13, Sunday that impressed the veteran receiver so much.

Tyler Lockett had to run the route properly and make the catch and run to the end zone. And Russell Wilson had to do his part in delivering the throw on time and on target.

But it also was the decision to dial up the pass that resulted in Lockett’s 52-yard touchdown to help the Seattle Seahawks beat the Dallas Cowboys, 24-13, Sunday that impressed the veteran receiver so much.

‘Russell (Wilson) did a great job being able to get the snap count down’

“We did a good job in being able to call the perfect play in a perfect coverage that they did against us,” Lockett told SiriusXM NFL Radio’s Zig Fracassi in breaking down one of the game’s decisive plays. “Russell did a great job being able to get the snap count down and being able to say, ‘Hut’ a little faster because we knew that they were trying disguise and we understood what defense they were in, why they were disguising it.

“So with him being able to do that, us receivers were able to get downfield a little faster to put pressure on those DBs and Russell did a great job throwing the ball and I was able to catch it, stay in bounds once I saw how late the safety was, and I was able to take it to the end zone.”

Another big factor in the Seahawks’ win was their ability to have Chris Carson rush for 100-plus yards and a touchdown.

“We needed to be able to run the ball and I think that we really executed that game plan,” said Lockett, who has 12 receptions for 196 yards and three touchdowns this season. “We ran the ball (32) times and Chris was able to get about a hundred yards, 102 to be exact.

‘Once we run the ball, we can be able to do anything that we want’

“But that’s what we have to be able to do, because once we run the ball, we can be able to do anything that we want — be explosive downfield, get short throws, all those types of things. And being able to have that (Sunday) allowed us to be more successful on offense.”

There also was the major contribution from disgruntled safety Earl Thomas, who is seeking a trade. Although he missed two days of practice before the game, Thomas had two interceptions against the Cowboys.

‘Those are big plays (by Earl Thomas) and we’re thankful to be able to have him on our team’

“The second one was really big in being able to change field position, being able to change the possession because they were about to score and try to make it a 20-24 game and that really allowed us to be able to help to call more timeouts and we were able to run the ball to where we put them in a hole because they didn’t have enough time,” Lockett said. “Those are big plays that he did and we’re thankful to be able to have him on our team.”
