Troy Brown, way back in 2001, became an early entry on the long list of current and former New England Patriots receivers to catch a touchdown pass from Tom Brady. The number reached 71 Thursday night, when Brady connected with newly acquired Josh Gordon in the Patriots’ 38-24 victory against the Indianapolis Colts.

‘He continues to look like he’s getting younger and not older’

“It’s good to be included in that number, the former Patriots wide receiver told Bruce Murray and Mark Dominik on the SiriusXM NFL Blitz. “Obviously, he’s having one heck of a career, a special career. He’s 41 years old now and just continues to look like he’s getting younger and not older. I think, when it’s all said and done and to have your name on that list of people, when they read through it, I think hopefully my name will be pretty early on that list so they’ll get to it pretty quick.”

Based on what he saw after Brady replaced Drew Bledsoe as the Pats’ starter in ’01, Brown isn’t the least bit surprised by the incredible success Brady has had.

‘We kind of figured he was going to be pretty good’

“We kind of saw that he was going to be kind of good football player, just the way he worked and the way he communicated with all the guys all the time,” Brown said. “He was always trying to get on the same page with his guys and know what breaks you were going to make and how you were going to read certain routes. So we kind of figured he was going to be pretty good … we couldn’t really tell that by his body. But just his work habit, he was into it.

“And just being one of those guys in that number of 71 to catch touchdown passes from Tom Brady — which seems like many, many, many years ago — that he’s still going strong at it, you’re just happy to be one of those guys in that 71. Which, by the way, I was one of those guys under Vinny Testaverde, (among the) 70 that he had.”
