Travis Kelce Talks Patrick Mahomes Connection and Chiefs’ Key Matchups

Kelce praised Mahomes’ ability to improvise and extend plays when the initial play breaks down, specifically, “his ability to get out of the pocket, still be able to throw it anywhere on the field, as far as he needs to throw it, as short as he needs to throw it, and just being able to get it in somebody’s hand.” Kelce also talked about how exciting it is when the initial play breaks down because it allows for more opportunities to make something happen.

Kelce and Mahomes’ connection is no accident. Kelce emphasized the importance of practicing at full speed during the offseason and training camp to build the instincts necessary for in-game decisions. This practice has paid off, as the duo has developed a unique and successful connection both in rhythm and off-rhythm.

Moving on to the Chiefs’ upcoming season, the NFL released the regular-season schedule, which includes six prime-time games for Kansas City. The defending Super Bowl champions will kick off the season on Sept. 7 with a game against the Detroit Lions at Arrowhead Stadium in the traditional Thursday prime-time opener.

One of the highlights of the schedule is a Monday night rematch of the Chiefs’ Super Bowl LVII win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 11 at Arrowhead. Another key matchup will be a Week 17 rematch against the Cincinnati Bengals, who the Chiefs faced in the past two AFC Championship Games. The Bengals won in overtime in 2021, while the Chiefs won on a late field goal last season.
