The Dean Obeidallah Show: Jesus and Moses are part of Islam?!

What do you mean Jesus is part of Islam?! Are you actually saying that Moses and Abraham are also part of Islam?! Noooooo way!!

Well, those are the typical responses I get from people when they hear that Jesus, Moses, and Abraham are not just part of Islam, but very important prophets to Muslims. And that was the first topic on my show this past Saturday that I discussed with Kameelah Rashad, the Muslim Chaplin at the University of Pennsylvania. She also answered questions in our segment “Ask a Muslim.” You can check out an excerpt here:

Iran deal: Good or bad? That has been the big debate over the last few days. Congressman Andre Carson (D-Indiana), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, joined me to discuss the deal. Plus since Rep. Carson is from Indiana, he spoke about his opposition to the Indiana’s so-called “religious liberty” law that would’ve allowed discrimination against gays and lesbians. I know some might be shocked to hear that a Muslim, like Rep. Carson, would advocate for the rights of the LGBT community, but there are actually many progressive Muslims in the United States (me included) who have made it clear that discrimination against any minority group is wrong:

Do you care about the war in Yemen? Probably not. Do you care about how much you pay per gallon for gas for your car or truck? I bet the answer to that question is yes. Well, Haroon Moghul, a fellow at Duke University joined us to explain why if Yemen collapses- as it is on the verge of doing-it could cause the flow of oil through the Suez Canal to stop. And that, my friends, would translate into a huge spike in gas prices for us here in the United States! Take a listen to that and why Yemen and California have more in common than you might think:

Finally, comedian Aron Kader, from Comedy Central’s Axis of Evil Special joined us to talk the controversy surrounding Trevor Noah’s tweets, the comedian recently tapped to host of The Daily Show after Jon Stewart retires this fall. Is it more political correctness or does Noah deserve the criticism?

My show airs live every Saturday at 10 AM to noon on SiriusXM Insight (Ch 121). It is also available On Demand. Hope you check it out and better yet give us a call during the show to “ask a Muslim” a question, discuss issues of the week or even be contestant on our weekly segment “Name that religion.” And as always, I want to be your Muslims friend – so if you don’t have one follow me on Twitter at @deanofcomedy and I’ll follow you back or ask me questions at facebook.com/deanofradio.
