Stay in the mood for jazz with these Jazz Appreciation Month specials on SiriusXM

April is Jazz Appreciation Month and, for the next few weeks, SiriusXM is celebrating the rich history of the art form with a handful of jazz-filled specials.

You may be stuck inside right now, but you can feel like you’re in a jazz club all month long as SiriusXM’s Real Jazz (Ch. 67) pays tribute to the genre’s greats, such as Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, and many more (see the full broadcast schedule below). Jazz fans can also stream the channel for free now until May 15.

Plus, jazz up your day with more classic or contemporary music 24/7 by tuning in to SiriusXM’s other jazz channels: Watercolors (Ch. 66), Luna (Ch. 766), and Watercolors Instrumental.

Jazz Appreciation Month Specials

Friday Crusin’

Real Jazz was on the 2020 Jazz Cruise, and every Friday this month, we’re presenting full performances from the cruise featuring the biggest names in jazz — including Kurt Elling, Joey DeFrancesco, Rene Marie, Christian McBride, and Randy Brecker.

Airs every Friday of the month at noon and midnight ET.

John Beasley Guest DJ

GRAMMY-winning pianist and arranger John Beasley returns to Real Jazz as a guest DJ for a week to share his favorite music in celebration of jazz.

Airs at 3pm ET from Monday, April 27 through Thursday, April 30.

International Jazz Day Celebration

This year’s International Jazz Day Global Concert celebration was to be held in Cape Town, but instead SiriusXM is bringing South Africa and the world to Real Jazz with the following specials.

Jazz Day begins with “Live From South Africa,” a four-hour program of live music and interviews curated by Kaya-FM in Johannesburg from some of the country’s biggest jazz stars, including the father/son duo of Steven and Bokani Dyer. The program is produced by Kaya-FM host Brenda Sisane (Suh-sahn-nee) who was the executive in charge of brining Jazz Day to South Africa.

Airs on Thurday, April 30 11am and 10 pm ET.

Pianist John Beasley was the arranger and music director for the International Jazz Day Global Concert 2020, but on April, he’ll be a guest DJ on Real Jazz. In addition to playing tunes, he’ll talk about working behind the scenes at Jazz Day, and he’ll be joined by 2019 Oscar-nominated composer/trumpeter Terence Blanchard and violinist and MacArthur genius grant winner Regina Carter.

Airs on Thursday, April 30 3pm and 2am ET.

“The Best of the International Jazz Day Global Concerts” hosted by Marcus Miller. 2020 would’ve marked the ninth year of the biggest jazz musicians from around the world coming together for a star-studded jam session. From the United Nations in 2012 to last year in Melbourne, Australia, Real Jazz will present highlights from Esperanza Spalding and Robert Glasper in Istanbul and Wayne Shorter and Terri Lyne Carrington in Paris.

Airs on Thursday, April 30 at 6pm and Friday, May 1 at 7am ET.
