SiriusXM celebrates Jazz Appreciation Month with a star-studded month of programming.

Real Jazz (Ch. 67) broadcasts the 2019 NEA Jazz Masters Tribute Concert live from the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. on April 15, honoring Bob Dorough, Stanley Crouch, Abdullah Ibrahim, and Maria Schneider with performances by Terence Blanchard, Terri Lyne Carrington, and others.

Later in the month, Real Jazz will broadcast the 2019 American Pianist Association Awards from Indianapolis, Ind. Airs: Saturdays 8pm ET with encore on Wednesdays 12 am ET

Real Jazz will also have April birthday celebrations of iconic musicians during the month including Billie Holiday on April 7, Herbie Hancock on April 12, Duke Ellington on April 29 and all year long we’re celebrating the centennial of Art Blakey.

SiriusXM’s Watercolors (Ch. 66) will celebrate live contemporary jazz throughout the month with broadcasts of performances recorded from aboard The Smooth Jazz Cruise ’19. Highlighted performances include legendary jazz musicians Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour.

“Footprints: The Music of Wayne Shorter” hosted by Grammy-winning musician Terri Lyne Carrington features the music of the 2018 Kennedy Center Honoree and 2019 Best Jazz Album Grammy winner, Wayne Shorter. Airs: Mondays 3pm ET with rebroadcasts Tuesdays 12 am ET

“Flipped with John Beasley” is a program that explores what happens musically when jazz musicians rearrange or “flip” songs from the Great American Songbook and make it their own. Grammy nominee and 2019 Oscar telecast arranger John Beasley is the host. Airs: Fridays 5pm ET with rebroadcasts Saturdays 6pm ET

Real Jazz had microphones up and running on both The Jazz Cruise and Blue Note at Sea cruise in February. Every week during Jazz Appreciation Month, we celebrate with the four-hour musical voyage “Friday Cruising.” Hosts Eulis Cathey and Mark Ruffin are your cruise directors to interviews with artists, passengers, and amazing recorded live performances from Joey DeFrancesco, Chucho Valdes, SF Jazz Collective and others. Airs: Fridays 1pm ET with rebroadcasts Fridays 12 am ET

Real Jazz and Jazz at Lincoln Center features “A Night At Dizzy’s Club”. As part of the Real Jazz year-long tribute to drummer Art Blakey, Russian trumpeter Valery Ponomarev airs his Our Father Who Art Blakey Big Band on April 12.  And the month closes, April 19 and 26 with two sets of Thelonious Monk tributes from keyboard/arranger John Beasley and his twice-Grammy nominated Monk’estra. Airs: Fridays 8pm ET with the encore on Sundays 4 ET

Icons are celebrated on “Live from Jazz at Lincoln Center”. Living legends McCoy Tyner and Charles McPherson join the orchestra in a celebration of their 80th birthday.  The music and compositions of the respective piano and sax icons will be featured on April 13.
