The Whisky a Go Go in West Hollywood occupies an special place in the hearts of the members of Chicago. The venue was not only where the band formed the music that would build their first album, it’s also the spot where they received their first big break by way of another famous musician. From the band’s account, Jimi Hendrix approached them in their dressing room after a show and invited them to open for him on tour.
As the band prepares to kick-off their latest tour, with the help of SiriusXM, the band made their return to their original stomping grounds after a 49-year absence. “I think the stage is a little bigger,” James Pankow says while looking around. With a smile, he pointed around the club and identified all the differences he noticed, from the balcony to the location of the bar to the height of the stage. The group had returned home and SiriusXM subscribers were present for the experience.
SiriusXM’s Classic Vinyl (Ch. 26) celebrates 50 years of Chicago with encore broadcasts of the live performance and a special Town Hall event with the band.
