Here’s how the SXM Big Ten Radio team voted to shape this week’s edition of the “Power Rankings” after week five of the 2022 season.

1. OHIO STATE 

Miyan Williams carried the load for No. 3 Ohio State, rushing for a career-high 189 yards and five touchdowns as the Buckeyes beat Rutgers 49-10 on Saturday. Williams got the opportunity for a career-high 21 carries when TreVeyon Henderson became a late scratch because of an unspecified injury. Williams, a third-year back, exploded for a 70-yard TD romp in the third quarter and also had four short scoring plunges.

2. MICHIGAN

Blake Corum rushed for 133 yards and a touchdown, J.J. McCarthy threw for 155 yards and a touchdown and No. 4 Michigan defeated Iowa 27-14 on Saturday. The Wolverines were able to consistently move the ball against the Hawkeyes, who came into the game leading the nation in scoring defense and ranked sixth in total defense and rushing defense. Michigan had 327 yards, including 172 rushing yards.

3. PENN STATE 

Nick Singleton had 21 carries for 87 yards and a touchdown, Penn State’s defense forced three turnovers and the No. 11 Nittany Lions outlasted Northwestern 17-7 on Saturday. Sean Clifford completed 10 of 20 passes for 140 yards with a touchdown and Kaytron Allen added 86 rushing yards on 21 carries to help Penn State stay unbeaten heading into an off week.

4. ILLINOIS 

Chase Brown rushed for 129 yards, Tommy DeVito had three short touchdown keepers and Illinois trounced Wisconsin 34-10 on Saturday to give coach Bret Bielema a triumphant return to Camp Randall Stadium. Illinois scored 17 points off Wisconsin turnovers and scored the game’s final 27 points to win as a 6½-point underdog. The Illini sacked Graham Mertz six times and held the Badgers to 2 yards rushing on 24 carries

5. MARYLAND 

Taulia Tagovailoa threw for 314 yards and a touchdown, and Maryland handed Michigan State its third consecutive loss, 27-13 on Saturday. The Terrapins scored touchdowns on their first two possessions, and the Maryland defense was solid as the Terps passed their first test in what feels like an important October for the program.

6. PURDUE

Devin Mockobee rushed for 102 yards and a late touchdown to pad Purdue’s lead, and the Boilermakers defense fueled yet another takedown of a ranked opponent in a 20-10 victory over No. 21 Minnesota on Saturday. Cam Allen had two of Purdue’s three interceptions of Tanner Morgan, one in the end zone in the second quarter and another in the closing minutes.

7. MINNESOTA

The Golden Gophers suffered their first loss of the season when Illinois came to Minneapolis and won 2-10.

8. IOWA 

The Hawkeyes could not slow down Michigan and lost to the Wolverines at home 27-14.

9. WISCONSIN

Not only did the Badgers lose to Illinois at Camp Randall on Saturday head coach Paul Chryst lost his job in the aftermath.

10. RUTGERS 

The Scarlet Knights were overpowered by Ohio State in Columbus 49-10.

11. MICHIGAN STATE 

The struggles for the Spartans this season continued with a 27-13 loss to Maryland on the road.

12. NEBRASKA 

Casey Thompson threw for two touchdowns and ran for another and Nebraska beat a Football Bowl Subdivision opponent for the first time in 364 days with a 35-21 victory over Indiana on Saturday night. Thompson, benched for a series in the first half and shaken up on a big hit in the third quarter, threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Trey Palmer early in the fourth to break a 21-all tie and followed with a 1-yard run to give the Cornhuskers a two-score cushion.

13.  INDIANA 

Tough sledding for the Hoosiers in Lincoln after a 35-21 loss to Nebraska.

14. NORTHWESTERN

The Wildcats’ skid reached four straight after 17-7 loss to Penn State in Happy Valley.
