The debut artist for Republic Nashville, Shania Twain is back with her first single in half a decade, “Waking Up Dreaming.”

“You didn’t think I would give you ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ without a music video right?? I can’t wait to see you guys replicate these looks… you know I had to give you some more outfit inspo,” Twain tweeted yesterday ahead of the release.

The music video, directed by Isaac Rentz, brings us back to the days of glam-rock, with Twain sporting a revolving selection of enormous wigs and eyelashes.

“I’ve spent the last couple years working away on new music… on my documentary… on the Vegas residency and it’s been such a creatively fulfilling time for me,” Twain wrote in an Instagram caption. “I can’t wait for this next chapter and ‘Waking Up Dreaming’ is just the start,”

With lyrics like “Way up higher than we’ve ever been / No we won’t stop at the ceiling / So let’s keep waking up dreaming” set to an ’80s pop beat, “Waking Up Dreaming” is a positive, hopeful look to the future for the artist. Twain still gives a nod to her country roots with the single artwork, where she can be seen in a cowboy hat and stiletto boots.

Twain’s documentary, Shania Twain: Not Just a Girl, was released on Netflix in late July of this year, and she proved she’s “Still the One” with a residency in Las Vegas’ Zappos Theater. There’s also talk of Twain playing Mrs. Potts in Disney and ABC’s live-action, thirtieth-anniversary remake of Beauty and the Beast.
