Russell Westbrook has reportedly signed a three-year extension to stay with the Oklahoma City Thunder following Kevin Durant’s departure to Golden State in July.
Westbrook said in a statement that he was looking forward to continuing his NBA career playing for the Thunder.
“I am grateful to extend my contract with the Thunder and continue to play with the only organization that I have played for and have loved being a part of since I was drafted into the NBA,” Westbrook said in a statement. “I’m really excited about moving forward with this group of guys and continuing to play in front of the best fans in the world.”
NBA veteran and SiriusXM host Jason Terry said Wednesday night that Westbrook is the best point guard in the league.
“If I’m starting a team today, and I have to pick one guard right now, I’m going with Westbrook,” Terry said. “He is the dominant force in basketball.”
Terry added: “He is a beast, a nightmare to guard. You can’t really prepare for him.”
Westbrook’s decision to stay in Oklahoma City comes after a month of speculation about what he might do now that fellow superstar Kevin Durant opted to chase a championship with the Warriors.
