Commissioner Rob Manfred announces the Minnesota Twins selection of Royce Lewis, a shortstop and outfielder from JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano, Calif., with the No. 1 pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball draft, Monday, June 12, 2017, in Secaucus, N.J.

MLB commissioner Rob Manfred joined Fantasy Sports Radio on Tuesday to discuss several topics, including a surge this season in power, both on the offensive and defensive side.

“Today’s game is about power on both sides, strike outs for pitchers, and home runs for batters,” Manfred told Jim Bowden and Craig Mish. “I think some of the things that have happened on the defensive side of the ball in terms of shifts has encouraged people to alter their swings to get more home runs, because that’s the only place they can reach base safely.”
