Righteous Radio: Rabbi Cosgrove’s favorite Yom Kippur ritual

Yom Kippur, the Jewish day of atonement, is the holiest day of the year for the Jewish people. It is the day when forgiveness is asked of God. This year, leading up to Yom Kippur, Rabbi Elliot Cosgrove spoke on the Indie Channel’s Righteous Radio about a tradition his father passed down to him, where the family “does something good” before they ask God for forgiveness.

“Sitting down for the pre-fast meal in my household and we would all sit down as children and my dad would take his check book out and put it on the table … and at that moment the kids had a say in what [charity we would donate to],” he said. “And we would always talk about what we should do for charity that year.”
