Record Store Day is April 23 and the releases are abundant. To help you cut through all the noise as you sift through the crates, check out some of our recommended releases below and hear even more from Record Store Day co-founder Carrie Colliton as she handpicks and discusses her own personal favorites below.

Donna Summer — Donna Summer

Be sure to get your hands on the album that brought us Summer’s sixteenth Top 40 hit, “Love Is in Control (Finger on the Trigger)” in 1982. The self-titled release marks Summer’s first time working with a producer other than Giorgio Moroder and Pete Bellotte since 1974, and co-songwriting credits include heavy hitters like Bruce Springsteen, Vangelis, Jon Anderson, album producer Quincy Jones, John Bettis, David Foster, and more.

Wallows — Wallows Singles Collection 2017-2020

Wallows, the three-person alternative band hailing from Los Angeles, began releasing singles in 2017, though they’ve never been compiled until now. The 10-track Wallows Singles Collection 2017-2020 includes hits like their first single, “Pleaser,” and 2020’s “OK,” which went on to be remixed by Remi Wolf and Solomonophonic. This Record Store Day, fans may very well be picking up their vinyls while the band plays on Coachella’s Outdoor Theatre stage for Weekend 2.

Childish Gambino — Kauai

Make it feel good like a late night in Kauai with the limited-edition RSD release of Childish Gambino’s Kauai EP for the first time on vinyl, with three surprise color variants randomly distributed. The 2014 paradise-found exploration of nostalgia and romantic anxieties features seven tracks, mostly produced by the longtime duo of Glover and Ludwig Göransson on songs like “Sober” and “Pop Thieves (Make It Feel Good).”

Taylor Swift — “the lakes”

Calling all Swifties — get your hands on Taylor’s folklore bonus track, “the lakes” in both its original, orchestral form, plus the version first released in anticipation of the album. This marks the first time that the original version of the track from the GRAMMY Album of the Year will be available on 7″ vinyl.

Black Pumas — Black Pumas [Collector’s Edition 7″ Box Set]

The Psychedelic soul duo of singer-songwriter Eric Burton and celebrated producer and guitarist Adrian Quesada will be releasing a special edition of their 2019 debut album, Black Pumas, complete with deluxe art and remixes of “Black Moon Rising” by BadBadNotGood and “Colors” by Pete Rock. The band has received six GRAMMY Award nominations and performed virtually at President Biden’s Celebrating America Inauguration special.

Paul McCartney/St. Vincent — “Women and Wives”

The 2022 Record Store Day Song of the Year, “Women and Wives,” gets the limited edition treatment with a two-sided 12″ vinyl featuring versions by both Paul McCartney and St. Vincent. Side A features McCartney’s original song from his No. 1 album McCartney III, while Side B includes St. Vincent’s reimagined version from McCartney III Imagined. This RSD special is a one-time worldwide run of only 3,000 numbered copies.
