Phillies’ GM on Chase Utley trade: ‘Difficult,’ but ‘necessary’

After 13 seasons, the Philadelphia Phillies traded Chase Utley to the Los Angeles Dodgers Thursday night in exchange for two prospects. The second basemen, who helped the Phillies capture a World Series in 2008, will join his longtime Phillies’ teammate Jimmy Rollins in L.A. as the team hopes to make a pennant run this fall.

SiriusXM’s MLB Network Radio was joined by Phillies’ GM Ruben Amaro Jr., who spoke about the Utley trade.

“To have him put on a different uniform, it is indeed difficult, but I think it was the right thing for us to do for both Chase and the franchise,” Amaro said. “Chase, the Dodgers and the Phillies kind of worked together to make this happen, and I think did what was necessary for all parties.”
