Having already reached the NFC title game last season, the Arizona Cardinals are looking to get over the hump and claim a Super Bowl championship in the 2016-2017 season. Head coach Bruce Arians had everyone buying into the system this past season as 36-year-old Carson Palmer threw for 4,600 yards, and the defense allowed 321 yards per game (good enough for 5th overall in the NFL). The Cardinals would eventually fall to the Carolina Panthers in the NFC Championship. Since then, they’ve only gotten better. With Chandler Jones rushing the edges, Evan Mathis playing guard and David Johnson emerging as one of the best young players in the game, the Cardinals have a very real chance of taking home the Lombardi Trophy in 2016.
Like we mentioned earlier, head coach Bruce Arians has one goal, and one goal only heading into the new season.
“From the inside, it’s always been the same expectation level,” Arians said. “As soon as we got here, we had one goal and that was to win the championship. That’s the only thing that makes a satisfying season.”
He added: “So you set those goals. You talk about it one time, then you go to work every day. You don’t talk about it anymore.”
Fantasy Studs and Sleepers
Stud: Chris Johnson is winding down his great career, and that may leave more room for second-year running back David Johnson, who had 12 regular season touchdowns and more than 1,000 all-purpose yards, to truly shine this coming season.
Sleeper: Wide receiver J.J. Nelson had nearly 300 yards on only 11 catches last season, and in his second year his teammates expect him to have an even bigger impact on the stat line.
