NFL goal posts.

Just like the swallows of Capistrano, or salmon returning to a stream in Alaska, Movin’ the Chains‘ Pat Kirwan and Jim Miller have their annual rites. Primary among those and also signalling the start of spring is their series of mock drafts prior to the NFL Draft next month. This first mock of theirs for 2016 was recorded this past Friday night after the slightly surprising (and sorta smart) signing of Robert Griffin, III by the Cleveland Browns. While the first version of anything can (and usually does) look different than later editions, one surprise was Pat bringing up the possibility of the San Francisco 49ers swapping Colin Kaepernick with the Cleveland Browns for the overal #2 pick. Hear Pat’s rationale for this move and why it actually makes some sense despite the recent acquisition of RGIII for Hue Jackson to think about a move like this:

Another stunner? The Cowboys moving up to #1 overall with the Tennessee Titans sliding down to the number four selection. The move can be seen as a win-win proposition for both the Cowboys and the Titans. Tennessee clearly has a lock on their quarterback of the future in Marcus Mariota and could wisely use the fourth pick on a talented lineman. Meanwhile, the Cowboys desperately need a reliable backup QB and need to face the reality that Tony Romo won’t be behind center forever. Carson Wentz at the #1 spot makes a bucket of sense for Jerry Jones and the gang.

Check out the rest of their picks in the first round of the 2016 NFL Draft and who they think your team will be selecting below.
