Micah Hyde: Bills ‘just a bunch of misfits with one common goal’

They have different backgrounds. What they share, however, is the desire to help make the Buffalo Bills a winner. And that, says safety Micah Hyde, has become a strong bond on the way to the team’s 3-1 start.

They’ve come from different places: Green Bay, where there has been consistent success; Cleveland, where there has been consistent failure.

They have different backgrounds.

‘You’ve got guys coming from all different teams in the league’

What they share, however, is the desire to help make the Buffalo Bills a winner. And that, says safety Micah Hyde, has become a strong bond on the way to the team’s 3-1 start.

“We’re a bunch of misfits with one common goal,” Hyde, a former Packer who joined the Bills as a free agent, told Alex Marvez and Gil Brandt on Late Hits. “It’s as simple as that. You’ve got guys coming from all different teams in the league — winning teams, winning organizations, losing teams, whatever.

‘Everyone’s buying in and we have faith in each other’

“But as soon as we stepped foot here in Buffalo, Sean McDermott made it a point that, ‘Whatever happened in the past doesn’t matter. We brought you in for a reason, we like what you’re able to do.’ And that’s why you see everyone playing their best football right now because they’re confident, everyone’s buying in and we have faith in each other.”

It isn’t only the team that is building confidence. So is the fan base, which has suffered through 17 seasons without a playoff appearance.

‘I love where we’re at’

“The community is dying for a winning football team and we’re trying every day to give that to them, and I love where we’re at,” Hyde said. “My fiancé, when we first got here, we went to breakfast one morning and she was disappointed because there was nobody wearing Bills T-shirts. She was really mad, because in Green Bay, everyone’s walking around wearing Packers stuff growing up.

“And earlier this week she went to breakfast and she went to go work out and she said there was nothing but Bills T-shirts and stuff like that around town. She was in awe, she loved it. So I think we’re headed in the right direction.”
