On April 24, the Met mourned the loss of Christa Ludwig, the remarkable German mezzo-soprano who sang 119 performances in 15 roles with the company between 1959 and 1993. In celebration of her extraordinary artistry, relive two of her most memorable appearances on the Met stage on Met Opera Radio (Ch. 355): a 1966 performance of Strauss’s Die Frau ohne Schatten, featuring Ludwig as the Dyer’s Wife, and a 1969 presentation of Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier, in which she stars as Octavian.
