Monday, NASCAR driver Martin Truex Jr. was docked 50 points, and his team, Michael Waltrip Racing, fined $300,00 for manipulating Saturday’s race at Richmond International Speedway. As a result of the sanctions, Truex fell out of the final wild card spot in the NASCAR Chase field, with Ryan Newman replacing him.

“As the sport’s sanctioning body, it is our responsibility to ensure there is a fair and level playing field for all of our competitors and this action today reflects out commitment to that, ” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR’s vice president for competition.

SiriusXM NASCAR Radio captured in-car audio from the race that may have helped lead to the penalties.
