Lynda Carter talks passing the Wonder Woman torch to Gal Gadot: ‘The character needs to be back’

Even though the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, hasn’t yet seen Gal Gadot’s portrayal of the Amazonian princess in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, the iconic actress is glad the character is back to inspire young women nearly 40 years after her TV show went off the air.

“I’ve seen pictures, and I think she looks great,” Carter, 64, said Tuesday on Dirty, Sexy, Funny with Jenny McCarthy. “I think people want to tell me, ‘Oh, she’s not as good as you.’ They think that I will like that, but I don’t like that.”

Carter, 64, starred as the lasso-wielding superhero¬†for three seasons from 1975-1979. NBC and the CW both tried to revive the feminist character for live-action projects in recent years, but Gadot’s role in Batman v. Superman and an upcoming standalone film means Wonder Woman is officially back to kicking butt.

“I think it’s time,” Carter told McCarthy, 43. “The character needs to be back. I personally want to include the character in the lives of young girls. I hope that she is presented in the empowering way that she needs to be.”

Dirty, Sexy, Funny airs weekdays at 10 am ET on SiriusXM’s Stars (Ch. 109), and you can listen to Lynda Carter’s full interview on demand.
