If Larry King had it his way, Ryan Seacrest, not Piers Morgan, would’ve replaced him on CNN, the broadcast legend told Howard Wednesday on The Stern Show.

King announced in 2010 that he was stepping down as host of Larry King Live. His final show aired in December, with Morgan replacing King in his time slot shortly after. King, however, said that his recommendation to CNN as a replacement was Seacrest.

“I think he would’ve taken it,” King told Howard, “because at that time, Ryan was just beginning to burst.”

King added that he doesn’t dislike Morgan, and that he hopes he does well because he likes CNN a lot.

Watch King dish more about Morgan, and see the relic of a cell phone the 79-year-old carries around.
