Kurt Busch came ‘very close’ to re-signing with Furniture Row

Kurt Busch-to-Stewart Haas may have been thisclose to not happening.

Tuesday on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, Busch said that he nearly re-signed with his soon-to-be-former team, Furniture Row Racing, earlier this season.

We were very close. The talks that I had at the beginning of the year, they offered me a contract before we even raced a race this year, which was based off of our six races last year that we did. And I said, ‘You know, this is a nice offer, but I think were gonna be moving the needle further than just going out there and posting Top-10s. We’re gonna go out there and run for Top-5s, and we’re gonna make the chase. And then that’s when I wanna see an offer that matches what all of our goals are.’ Come July, they had said, ‘You know, here’s what we’re looking at,’ I said, ‘Here’s what I’m looking at,’ and things were getting pretty close. But it just seemed like the long-term vision, I couldn’t quite get a grasp on it. … I think the only thing that Furniture Row was doing wrong: I think their timeline needed to be moved up two or three months.

Listen to Busch and the rest of the NASCAR Chase field this Sunday in the Sylvania 300 on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.
