Dee Ford: Chiefs ‘missed Eric Berry and definitely happy to have him back’

As happy as Kansas City Chiefs outside linebacker Dee Ford is with team and individual accomplishments, he’s equally pleased to know that standout Chiefs safety Eric Berry is back in the lineup after missing the first 14 weeks of the season with an Achilles injury.

Dee Ford has plenty of reasons to feel good.

He plays outside linebacker for one of the best teams in the NFL, the 11-3 Kansas City Chiefs. On Tuesday, he found out he was selected to play in his first Pro Bowl.

‘You can definitely feel his energy’

But as happy as Ford is with those team and individual accomplishments, he’s equally pleased to know that standout Chiefs safety Eric Berry is back in the lineup after missing the first 14 weeks of the season with an Achilles injury. Berry’s first action came in the Chiefs’ 29-28 loss against the Los Angeles Chargers on Dec. 13.

“The vibe is different when he’s on the field, especially being on the same page because we’re big on that.”

“In every way,” Ford told Alex Marvez and Gil Brand on Late Hits when asked how good it felt to have Berry back. “Spiritually. You can definitely feel his energy. The vibe is different when he’s on the field, especially being on the same page because we’re big on that.”

‘He was able to disguise a few coverages and make Philip (Rivers) make mistakes’

Ford saw an immediate impact with Berry that no doubt provides encouragement for the final two weeks of the regular season and in the playoffs.

“He was able to disguise a few coverages and make (Chargers quarterback) Philip (Rivers) make mistakes,” Ford said. “You love that, because that buys time for the rush to get there. We missed him and we’re definitely happy to have him back and enjoy the rest of the season with him.”
