The Bangtan Boys are back in the SXM studios to discuss their brand-new album, Map of the Soul: 7. During their visit to SiriusXM Hits 1 (Ch. 2) last Friday, February 21, BTS covered everything from members’ solo songs to what to expect during their upcoming tour. Catch the interview and see more exclusive BTS moments below!
After acting out their favorite emojis, the K-pop supergroup got up close and personal with host Mikey Piff to share stories from this new era. Map of the Soul: 7 takes on a figurative and literal meaning for the band — it represents the seven members and seven years since their debut, while also speaking towards the darkness and light they’ve faced throughout their whirlwind careers. RM referred to the album as their “grand diary.” As the group dished on their respective inspirations, it’s clear that each song is rooted in their unique perspectives on both themselves and the world.
The album, which features guests like Sia (who the group all agreed fit perfectly with the lead single “ON”), Steve Aoki, Troye Sivan, Halsey (on “Boy with Luv,” which they discussed during their first visit with SiriusXM last April), also gives each member a chance to shine with their own solo tracks. Jimin’s song, “Filter,” dually stands for the filters used on social media and the different ways people see each other. “Interlude: Shadow” is Suga’s call-back to the School Trilogy and interpretation of what it’s like to meet your own shadow.
While BTS always show love to their fans, Jin highlights just how significant they are to the band with his explanation of “Moon,” in which he calls himself the moon and ARMY the Earth. What else can fans expect from BTS in the upcoming months? Their worldwide tour will make stops in brand new cities and promises to be more massive than ever before. As an added bonus, performances of “ON” will feature the hardest choreography they’ve ever done, according to Jimin.
And even though the album just dropped, they still have their eyes set on the future — goals include health, happiness, and, of course, GRAMMY® noms.
