In 2013, word surfaced of a biopic starring Josh Gad about legendary animated comedian Sam Kinison. Almost two years later, it appears the project is still in development with Gad, and is still likely to be directed by Borat’s Larry Charles.

On SiriusXM’s Opie & Jim, Gad spoke about playing Kinison, who passed away tragically in a car accident in 1992, and gave listeners an update on the project.

“We want to make sure it’s perfect, otherwise there’s no reason to do it,” said Gad. “There’s too many Kinison fans out there, and the story is so wonderful that it’s sort of like, there’s so many elements that need to be right.”

Gad said that if the film is indeed made, it will mainly focus on Kinsion’s time as a preacher leading up to the start of his comedy career. He also told Opie and Jim that he previewed his Kinison scream in his upcoming film, Pixels.
