Jordy Nelson: ‘I don’t think I’ll ever be a hundred percent’

Jordy NelsonJordy Nelson doesn’t really know if there was any point in the season when he felt he was all the way back from the serious knee injury that sidelined him for all of the 2015 campaign.

At no point has the Green Bay Packers’ receiver believed he was a “hundred percent,” because that seems fairly unrealistic at this point of his career.

‘What hurt me the most early in the year was missing training camp’

“I’ve played this game for nine years now and had a few surgeries, and I don’t think I’ll ever be a hundred percent,” Nelson told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “I think, for me, it was getting back at practice. I think what hurt me the most early in the year was missing out on training camp. I’m a guy who needs practice and not being able to practice every day …”

It set him back. It also led to some inconsistency, but lately Nelson has performed better to help the Packers go on a four-game winning streak after four losses in a row. The latest was Sunday’s 30-27 triumph against the Chicago Bears. Nelson helped the Packers with seven catches for 124 yards.

‘I haven’t had to take a day off here or there’

“Once the season started, I haven’t missed anything, I haven’t had to take a day off here or there, so I think that’s been key for me to continue to improve throughout the year and become more consistent,” he said. “So I think that’s what I missed. I missed the offseason, I missed training camp. That’s the stuff I need to prepare myself for the season, especially after missing a whole season before and the offseason before that was my hip surgery.

“It’s one of those things that I need the reps, I need the timing and I think it’s showing now after the weeks of the season, and just being consistent. And I think the media’s so up and down that it doesn’t matter. I had a big game in Detroit in Week Three. Everyone was saying I was back. Then, the next week, I didn’t do very well and so I was ‘old,’ so it’s a week-by-week thing we go with, I guess.”
