Johnson: NFL MVP selection ‘would mean a lot’

David Johnson can hardly believe it.

Yes, that’s him being discussed as a possible NFL MVP at the most, a Pro Bowl selection at the least.

‘A great accolade for me to have’

The Arizona Cardinals’ second-year running back is having that kind of season. He has rushed for 1,005 yards and 11 touchdowns. He also ranks second on the team, behind Larry Fitzgerald, with 64 pass receptions for 704 yards and four scores.

Johnson ran for 84 yards and a touchdown, and caught nine passes for 91 yards and another score in the Cardinals’ 31-23 victory against the Washington Redskins.

‘I don’t get heard about much’

“That would mean a lot,” Johnson told Bruce Murray and Brady Quinn on the SiriusXM Blitz. “That would mean a great achievement, a great accolade for me to have. And just because I don’t get heard about much, especially last year coming in as a rookie coming from Northern Iowa, I’ve always grown up not getting talked about much, not getting a lot of recognition.

“So, just to be talked about in the MVP or talked about making it to the Pro Bowl, is a huge honor hopefully that I do get to talk about just because of all the hard work I went through, all the sacrifices, the way I had to play with a chip on my shoulder growing up.”
