Rookie of the Year award, Pro Bowl appearance, 10-6 record, and a trip to the postseason: Everything about Robert Griffin III’s first season as the Washington Redskins’ quarterback made it seem like he was destined for stardom. But after a 3-10 start to the 2013 season, negative media attention and a 20-point drop in passer rating, RGIII has been benched, his future in Washington suddenly hazy.

Did the Redskins make the right decision? Hall of Fame head coach John Madden discussed the situation on SiriusXM NFL Radio.

“When you have a bad record, everything stinks, and everything starts to unravel, and everything falls apart,” Madden said. “[Griffin’s] playing is only going to help him. He need experience, he needs snaps, he needs reps, he needs to get his confidence back, and if it’s a problem of taking too many sacks and too many hits, then block better for him.”

Madden Football airs Wednesdays at 2 pm ET on SiriusXM NFL Radio, channel 88, and Mad Dog Sports Radio, channel 86.
