‘Try to look better!’ — Joan Rivers slams Lena Dunham on Howard

Remember that time Howard Stern took on Girls creator, director and star Lena Dunham? Something about how Dunham was “a little fat girl who looks like Jonah Hill and keeps taking her clothes off”?

Well, soon after Dunham called Howard to say, “I’m not that fat, Howard. I don’t mean to take major issue with you about this. I’m not super thin, but I’m thin for, like, Detroit,” Howard offered an apology:

“I guess I just wanted to tell you I love you and I think you’re terrific.”

Cue life-long friendship!

Now, after hanging with (and getting name-called by) Dunham at his Birthday Bash, Howard readily jumps to Dunham’s defense at the first sign of haterade. Just ask Fashion Police-woman Joan Rivers, who loudly criticized Dunham’s body and wardrobe choices during a recent guest spot on Howard’s show.

“Lemme ask you something. Lena Dunham, who I think is terrific — how could she wear dresses above the knee?” asked Joan.

“Well, I think the thing we love about her is that she doesn’t give a sh–,” replied Howard. “She did a whole [Girls] episode in a bikini. It was the funniest f—–‘ thing I ever saw.”

“But that’s wrong! You’re sending a message out to people saying, ‘It’s OK! Stay fat! Get diabetes. Everybody die,'” countered Joan. “Don’t let them laugh at you physically. …Try to look better!”

And that’s when Howard became a hero to women everywhere (including this one).

“But why not? Men have been doing that for years,” responded Howard.

One of the biggest moments of my career — I knew my ass had cellulite. I knew it was going to make people laugh. I’m allowed to do that, and women and men don’t say ‘Oh my God, he showed his ass,’ ’cause I’m a guy. Why can’t women be liberated like that?
