Jay Bilas on 25th anniversary of ‘The Shot’: It worked beautifully that one time

Twenty-five years later, you’d be hard-pressed to think of a more iconic shot than that of Christian Laettner’s game-winning overtime jumper to down the Kentucky Wildcats in the 1992 NCAA Tournament.

Twenty-five years later, you’d be hard-pressed to think of a more iconic shot than that of Christian Laettner’s game-winning overtime jumper to down the Kentucky Wildcats in the 1992 NCAA Tournament.

Jay Bilas, then an assistant coach to Mike Krzyzewski and the Duke Blue Devils, joined SiriusXM NBA Radio and reminisced about that unforgettable moment on the court.

“We had run that same play earlier in the year against Wake Forest and Grant Hill threw the pass and it kind of took this banana arc and lead (Christian) Laettner out of bounds on the opposite sideline,” Bilas said. So, it wasn’t like we had this history of running that play and having it work. But it worked beautifully that one time.”
