Houston Nutt’s Week 3 Heisman Trophy Watch: Nick Marshall enters the fold

SiriusXM College Sports Nation college football analyst Houston Nutt was a three-time SEC Coach of the Year during his time at Arkansas and Ole Miss. Following the third week of action, Nutt ranked his top five players to watch for the Heisman Trophy:

5. Everett Golson, Notre Dame quarterback – Golson led the Fighting Irish to a 30-14 win over Purdue while throwing two touchdowns for 259 yards.

They have a tough schedule, but so far he’s proved he can be dynamic on the football field.

4. Jameis Winston, Florida State quarterback – Winston and the Seminoles had a bye week in Week 3, though they’ll be up for the challenge in Week 4 when they face No. 20 Clemson.

Enough said.

3. Nick Marshall, Auburn quarterback – while the Tigers had a bye week as well, Marshall looks to extend their undefeated season to 3-0 on Thursday when they face No. 20 Kansas State.

The guy can move the ball up and down the field, throwing and running.

2.  Todd Gurley, Georgia running back – Gurley’s Bulldogs lost to South Carolina 38-35 in one of the most entertaining games of the weekend but the running back still ran for one touchdown and 131 yards.

Big time running back, arguably the best running back in the entire country.

1.  Marcus Mariota, Oregon quarterback – Mariota led the Ducks to a dominating 48-14 win over Wyoming in Week 3 throwing two touchdowns and no interceptions

He can beat you with his legs or arms.
