In this Saturday, March 4, 2017, file photo, UCLA guard Lonzo Ball, right, walks away after hugging his father, LaVar, following the team’s NCAA college basketball game against Washington State in Los Angeles. The UCLA freshman point guard has been one of college basketball’s best players and could be the No. 1 pick in the NBA draft. He’s kept up his high-level of play over the past month as his father, LaVar, has become more vocal in the media.

By now, you’ve likely heard an outlandish claim by LaVar Ball, the outspoken father of potential top-2 NBA Draft pick, Lonzo. Whether he’s claiming he could have beaten Michael Jordan 1-on-1 back in his “prime,” or getting defensive about the $495 price tag on his Big Baller Brand’s shoes, LaVar can’t keep himself out of the headlines.

Whether he’s claiming he could have beaten Michael Jordan 1-on-1 back in his “prime,” or getting defensive about the $495 price tag on his Big Baller Brand’s shoes, LaVar can’t keep himself out of the headlines. In fact, that’s at least partly by design. LaVar wants everyone to keep the Ball’s front of mind, with the ultimate payoff being that Lonzo is drafted No. 2 by the Los Angeles Lakers.

Four-time champ and Lakers favorite, Horace Grant, isn’t so sure that LaVar is putting Lonzo in the best scenario to succeed.

“You’re going to have guys like Steph and Klay, Russell Westbrook…Chris Paul – you can go on and on – are going to target this young man,” Grant told SiriusXM NBA Radio, XM Ch. 86, Sirius Ch. 207. “Nothing physical, but they’re going to try their best to embarrass him.”
