When it comes to artists that embody the American spirit, it’s hard to argue with Willie Nelson.
On the heels of the release of his new album, Ride Me Back Home, Willie will be celebrating America’s Independence Day by hosting his 45th 4th of July Picnic and broadcasting the all-day event live on his own SiriusXM channel, Willie’s Roadhouse (Ch. 59).
Originating in 1973, Willie’s Picnic began as successor to 1972’s Dripping Springs Reunion in Dripping Springs, Texas, which followed the lead of groundbreaking rock festivals like Woodstock and the Monterey Pop Festival. Listen to Willie describe a particularly memorable Picnic experience with the late Leon Russell in this clip from a recent subscriber event recorded at his ranch in Luck, TX:
Taking place at Austin360 Amphitheatre in Austin, Texas, the 2019 Picnic boasts another star-studded lineup, headlined by Willie Nelson & Family, with sets from Luke Combs, Alison Krauss, Nathaniel Rateliff & Night Sweats, Jamey Johnson, Steve Earle & The Dukes, Hayes Carll, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Gene Watson, Johnny Bush and more.
SiriusXM’s exclusive live broadcast will get underway at 2 pm ET, with backstage coverage from Willie’s Roadhouse and Outlaw Country hosts Dallas Wayne and Paula Nelson, and go well into July 5th, with Willie’s set scheduled at 11 pm local time.
