George Martin, often referred to as The Fifth Beatle, died on Tuesday at the age of 90. However, his talents played a hand creating more than just Fab Four songs. From his pre-Beatles work with Gerry and the Pacemakers and comedy acts The Goons, to his post-Beatles work with America, Elton John, Stevie Wonder and more, Martin’s production propelled songs to greatness. Here are some of our favorite non-Beatles, Martin-produced songs, courtesy of 60s on 6 Program Director (among others, check out Velvet!) and pop music savant, Lou Simon.
Cilla Black – Anyone Who Had a Heart
Gerry And The Pacemakers – Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying
Billy J. Kramer with The Dakotas – Bad to Me
Shirley Bassey – Goldfinger
Matt Monro – My Kind of Girl
Paul McCartney and Wings – Live And Let Die (James Bond Theme)
Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder – Ebony and Ivory
