PHOENIX — They’ve taken the first major step together.

Now, it’s a matter of Miami Dolphins coach Adam Gase and his quarterback, Ryan Tannehill, building on a solid foundation.

‘It’s that you’re past that initial learning stage’

And Gase is confident that will happen, especially after the Dolphins made the decision to come up with the necessary money to retain game-breaking wide receiver Kenny Stills.

“It’s that you’re past that initial learning stage where you’re trying to figure out what does all of the terminology mean?” Gase told Alex Marvez and Vic Carucci on Late Hits from the NFL meeting here. “Why are you doing this? Why are we doing that? It’s more of jumping in and really perfecting your craft and working on fine-tuning every little detail of the offense.

‘One guy’s not going to be able to do it on his own’

“Not only (Tannehill), but the rest of the guys, because one guy’s not going to be able to do it on his own. It takes that entire group, starting with the offensive line, the running backs, wide receivers, tight ends, quarterback.”

Gase couldn’t be happier with the Dolphins’ emphasis this offseason on keeping their offense together.

‘We’re leaning a lot about each other’

“We feel like the chemistry’s only going to get better from here,” the coach said. “And we’re learning a lot about each other — last spring, to training camp, then coming into this spring. They’re going to know each other better and how we need to do it.”
