Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor’s upcoming megafight is likely to be more of a show than a competitive boxing match, and that could by why their press conferences last week were must-see (and hear, obviously) events.
After berating each other in front of a McGregor-heavy crowd, both fighters answered questions from the media, though their most interesting tidbits weren’t about the fight at all. First, “Money” Mayweather opened up to SiriusXM RUSH the perceived double standard that exists between how flashy he was younger versus Conor McGregor now.
“Me, as a black man, when I was flashy and flamboyant and telling the world I’m the best; I wore diamond chains, I wore mink coats, I have so many beautiful cars, right? They said he’s arrogant, ungrateful,” Mayweather said. “But then you have a Caucasian that steals my whole blueprint, and he go out there and do it, and they praise him for it and this is what goes on in this world today but nobody seems to see that.”
McGregor was far more subdued (aside from the mink coat and sunglasses he was wearing indoors), instead choosing to use his words sparingly when asked about the fight contract.
We’re just a little month away from the August 26 fight in Las Vegas. Stay up-to-date with all the latest on Mayweather-McGregor by listening to SiriusXM RUSH (Ch. 93).
