FKA Twigs talks ‘cold, robotic … alien’ sound with Jenny Eliscu on SiriusXMU

Our favorite new artist comes all the way from England and she’s brought a distinct new style to American ears. For the past year, FKA Twigs has been imprinting her asymmetrical beats and unique sound onto our minds and we just can’t seem to shake it. The electronic R&B singer, songwriter, producer and dancer recently joined Jenny Eliscu in the SiriusXM U studios to discuss her recently released LP, titled LP1.

Twigs (née Tahliah Barnett) discussed her unique emotional style, addressing the common description of it as cold, robotic, and having an alien aspect. “That’s just my personality … My friends know what I’m like. There’s just kind of an element of detachment and I think that comes from my music; and I’m kind of proud of that because I know that’s me then. So it’s really emotional and the sounds can be really warm,” she said.

FKA Twigs, who has a background as a dancer, is also recognized for her performance art, making for some very interesting music videos, including the recent Water Me and Two Weeks. “I think visuals are important because I know that my music is quite unusual in a way and it helps people understand where I’m coming from,” she said.
