“Why this? Why now? Is it? It’s just a lot of questions here about what this is all about.”

They call it an October surprise for a reason.

FBI director James Comey sent the political world into a spiral on Friday when he sent a letter to lawmakers that the agency would be looking into new evidence linked to Hillary Clinton‘s use of a private email server during her time as secretary of state.

The discovery of new emails came to light during an unrelated investigation into Anthony Weiner’s alleged sexting with underage girls. His now estranged wife, Huma Abedin is a top aide to Clinton.

“Ya can’t make it up. The script will be sent back for just ridiculousness at this point,” ABC’s Political Director Rick Klein told Julie Mason Friday. “It just is the strangest set of circumstances and I just can’t keep track who the good guys and the bad guys are in either camp right now.”

Mason laughed adding, “the Weiner angle is just the cherry on top.” Klein agreed that “it’s just too bizarre to even imagine.”

Will the new probe impact the race?

“I don’t think it’s going to be wrapped up before the election, which means this is going to be something that helps shape, you know, the national coverage of it and possibly voters reaction to what happens over the next 10, 11 days,” Josh Green, National Correspondent at Business Week and Bloomberg Politics, who has been covering the probe into Clinton’s emails told Mason Friday. “I think that’s one reason why the Clinton campaign, as odd as it may sound, we may see them come out and put some kind of pressure on Comey and the FBI to be more specific about what it is they are investigating.”

Green added, “At least the early signs we have don’t lead me to believe anyway that this is some sort of bombshell investigation, but until we have more details on what exactly they are looking at the speculation is obviously going to run in the direction of, you know, could this cost Hillary Clinton the election and that sort of thing. So I would imagine that the Clinton people more than anybody would want some clarity in exactly what is and what is not being investigated.”

“I can honestly tell you, I feel like Bernie Sanders, ‘enough with these emails,'” Sen. Debbie Stabenow told Michelangelo Signorile Friday. “I mean we are at a point where we are at the end of the campaign and I think the other side is throwing everything they possibly can — you know, making up things, finding other people’s emails, whatever it is — just throwing everything at the wall and hoping something sticks.”

Stabenow concluded, “You know I do question what’s happening. Why this? Why now? Is it? It’s just a lot of questions here about what this is all about.”
