Firecracker New York Congressman Anthony Weiner resigned in 2011 after accidentally tweeting out a sext meant for a 21-year-old in Seattle. Fast forward to 2013 when his mayoral race ends in scandal when more photos surface. And last August, his wife Huma Abedin — one of Hillary Clinton’s top aides — left him after a picture of him showing off his … last name next to his sleeping son surfaced.

“Can you explain that psychologically to me please?” Taylor Strecker asked celebrity addiction specialist Dr. Drew Pinsky on Friday’s episode of Wake Up with Taylor. “Because he was like, ‘Oh whoops, I forgot that my hard weiner was out there when I sent a picture with my kid next to me.’ Was there any way it was a mistake?”

“No, it’s a progression of addiction, right? More, more, more severe. More, more, more extreme. More and more and more consequences. That’s just the way it works,” Pinsky said. “I was talking to a real expert in that field yesterday and she said, ‘Look, it was predictable.’ … When he was denying how serious this was, when he was minimizing it, when he was avoiding the shame and guilt that was associated with it and saying he’s getting counseling for it, ‘I’ve got it under control,’ she knew immediately it was gonna go to a bad place. And the treatment, you know, he’s gonna have intense treatment. That’s going to take a long time.”

Pinsky added that Weiner could beat his sex addiction with treatment. (Weiner is currently checked into a rehab center in Tennessee.) Still, “it’s like alcoholism or anything else. They have to really want to get better,” Pinsky said.

As for a high-profile man on the other side of the aisle, Pinsky specified that Donald Trump is a narcissist, not a sociopath.

“Look, everyone running for president’s a narcissist, right? The question is, is he a malignant narcissist, meaning you really have no empathy for other people, and one of the things to argue against that is look at their children. And you have to have empathy to raise good children,” he said. “Everyone I know that did Apprentice, the first thing they say is, ‘Oh my God, his kids are so great. The way he treats them and the way they treat him.'”

“I don’t know the man, I don’t know nothing. But he is hypomanic, right? And a lot of businessmen are hypomanic,” he added. “Hypomanic is like just under mania. And he says it. ‘I don’t sleep, I have boundless energy, I’m hypersexual, I can make decisions very impulsively, I can’t edit what I’m saying.'”
