Amidst a flurry of angry tweets and sarcastic press releases, Donald Trump is skipping Thursday night’s GOP debate. Trump made the decision Fox News refused his calls to remove Megyn Kelly as a moderator. The network issued a statement on the presidential candidate’s decision, standing by their anchor and saying that capitulating to Trump’s ultimatum would violate “all journalistic standards.”
… it should be clear to the American public by now that this is rooted in one thing – Megyn Kelly, whom he has viciously attacked since August and has now spent four days demanding be removed from the debate stage.
As the feud between the network and Trump continued (and continues), Mediaite published a snarky statement from Fox News:
We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.
Trump’s son weighed in on the bad blood.
“It has nothing to do with Megyn Kelly. You and I both know that,” Donald Trump Jr. said to Stephen Bannon on Breitbart News Daily. “A press release of that nature that’s that inflammatory and that childish doesn’t come from a low-level guy in the marketing department.”
“[Donald Trump]’s not afraid of anyone, but he’s not going to sit there and watch these guys rake in billions of dollars in advertising,” Trump Jr. said. “He’s not going to let anyone push him around.”
Trump will spend Thursday night hosting a televised event at Drake University in Iowa, raising money for veterans.
IAVA Founder and CEO Paul Rieckhoff announced on Twitter that, if offered, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America would turn down a donation from Trump.
If offered, @IAVA will decline donations from Trump's event. We need strong policies from candidates, not to be used for political stunts.
