Watch: Dolly Parton Delivers Star-Studded ‘Jolene’ Performance at Rock Hall Induction

To her legions of devotees, Dolly Parton has always been a rock star. And the country legend demonstrated that alongside a supergroup of genre-spanning music icons on the night she was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

While onstage, Dolly rocked out one of her most popular hits — “Jolene” (1974) — with P!nk, Sheryl Crow, Pat Benatar, Eurythmics’ Annie Lennox, Dave Stewart, Simon Le Bon, Brandi Carlile, and Judas Priest’s Rob Halford. Watch the performance now.

“I’m a rock star now!” Parton said during her acceptance speech. “This is a very special night for me. I’m sure a lot of you knew that back when they said they were gonna put me in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, I didn’t feel like I had done enough to deserve that. And I didn’t understand at the time that it’s about more than that. But I’m just so honoured and so proud to be here tonight.”

Star-Studded Show

P!nk enshrined Dolly from the Microsoft Theater stage in Los Angeles. “Dolly you’re amazing,” she told her. “You bring people together and you put so much light and joy into the world and we all love you so much and I am beyond honored… It is my pleasure to induct you into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.”

Dolly had originally rejected her nomination last February. The music icon, who was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1999, explained that she didn’t want to split voters and would “respectfully bow out.” The nomination marked her first nomination after 30 years of eligibility. In late April, however, she conceded, telling NPR’s Morning Edition that she would accept the award “gracefully.”
