Disturbed frontman reveals his favorite new songs on Octane, talks band’s five-year hiatus

As we gear up for the highly anticipated release of Disturbed’s new album, Immortalized, Octane (Ch. 37) gets a special visit from Disturbed frontman David Draiman. Hear his interview with SiriusXM host Kayla Riley as they discuss the return of Disturbed after a five-year hiatus. You’ll hear songs from Disturbed’s new album and some of Draiman’s favorite new hard rock songs from bands like Trivium, Nothing More, Of Mice & Men, and others when he takes over the channel as guest DJ! Plus Octane will play new tracks from Immortalized all weekend with custom introductions from Draiman.

Speaking to Kayla Riley about their decision to take a break from the band, Draiman said that it “stemmed from things becoming too assembly line-like and predictable and monotonous.”

“When you fall into the rut of make a record, tour, make a record, tour – that predictability can breed stagnation and a little bit of sterility,” he explained. “People know they can get a record from you ever other year and can see you tour every other year. It’s not an event. It’s something that just happens. And for us, we were feeling a little burnt out.  We were feeling like we wanted to stop the assembly line-like nature of things and pull ourselves away for a while, get to be human beings for a little bit.”

He went on to talk about starting a family during the band’s hiatus and the conversations that lead to getting the band back together. Ultimately, he said, their return had nothing to do with the healthy state of hard rock and heavy metal and its monetary opportunities for the band, but rather a burning desire to perform live and see their fans again.

“The only reason you ever should get back together should be because the fire is burning so powerfully inside you that you simply cannot contain it,” he explained. “And that’s why. That’s the only reason why. …We simply couldn’t stay away anymore.”
