In a bitter twist to former Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell’s historic corruption conviction, it appeared McDonnell may lose his pension under a 2011 law McDonnell signed stripping felons of certain state benefits. It was one more indignity at the end of a trial featuring no shortage of disrepute.

Olympia Meola of the Richmond Times-Dispatch covered the McDonnell trial and joined Julie Mason in the Press Pool on SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel 124 after jurors in Richmond delivered the verdict.

Another infamous political marriage in the news: former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver. Tara Palmeri of the New York Post broke the story about Shriver’s alleged indiscretions and told Julie that covering sex scandals is not much different from any other kind of reporting.

Oh, those Republicans. Doug Heye, who was a spokesman for former House Majority Leader Eric Cantor, described the recent shocker primary night that cost his boss the job and the surprising calls they got from Vice President Joe Biden and others the next day.

Checking in with Texas, Ross Ramsey from the Texas Tribune related a strange incident involving a deleted tweet from Gov. Rick Perry’s Twitter account. Currently under indictment, Perry’s general turmoil has largely eclipsed the race to succeed him.

We’re not just ganging up on the GOP, though. Ron Fournier from National Journal joined the show to discuss his critical piece on President Obama’s summer of disconnectedness.

Check out the Press Pool with Julie Mason weekdays from 3-6 p.m. ET on SiriusXM’s POTUS Channel 124 and follow Julie on Twitter @juliemason.
