There wasn’t anywhere to go up but up for Kansas after last year’s 1-11 college football season. Head coach Charlie Weis sounded confident that’s the direction his program his heading, too, during an interview with Jack Arute and Rick Neuheisel on SiriusXM College Sports Nation at Big 12 media day.

Weis said his Jayhawks improved across the board this offseason, including the team’s lone strength in 2012 — running back — and across the defensive line and secondary.

“The one position we were strong at last year as running back, and I think we’re actually stronger this year than we were last year,” Weis said. “[And] I think that at every other position, other than running back, I think we got more talented players and more competition.”

Weis also spoke about bringing junior college players on board and his recruiting pitch to incoming players with Arute and Neuheisel.

SiriusXM College Sports Nation continues its media day tour Wednesday and Thursday at the Big Ten media days, and wraps up in Los Angeles with the PAC-12 media day on Friday.
